About RSSP
Residential and Student Service Programs (RSSP) is the first introduction to the UC Berkeley campus for incoming students. As such, we ensure the maintenance of a safe and comfortable place for students to live; nourishment of their bodies, minds and hearts; and access to campus resources, including programs designed to nurture their children.
As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, RSSP provides an operationally effective and efficient array of services that provide our students a home away from home that is welcoming, comfortable, safe, and promotes a strong sense of belonging. As an auxiliary operation, we also substantially contribute to other supportive student programs across Student Affairs and campus that engage students on a path of lifelong connection to Berkeley.
Our living/learning community helps students make the most out of UC Berkeley’s world-class education and campus experience.

Departments
RSSP provides high-quality, essential services to students, including housing, dining, and child care, which are fundamental to a holistic student experience. Each RSSP unit contributes to making our living/learning communities relevant, engaging, and active. As a campus auxiliary, we deliver operational excellence in service to UC Berkeley’s mission, while significantly contributing to University priorities.
Berkeley Dining operates a variety of locations, including Dining Commons, Campus Restaurants, Convenience Stores, and Catering. We strive to provide a service that is of good value and diversified to our student population. We also continue to develop our plant-forward menus, our employee and student engagement, and our strategic partnership with our vendors. Berkeley Dining supports the “Basic Needs Initiative” on campus through a comprehensive food donation program and two campus gardens.

The Summer Conference Housing office is responsible for selling residence hall bed spaces and dining services during the summer season. Our coordinators offer contracts to students attending Summer Sessions, first-year/transfer orientation programs, visiting scholars, and students doing internships in the Bay Area. We also coordinate with campus departments and external groups hosting residential conferences by offering meeting spaces, accommodations and dining packages to meet their needs.

Graduate & Family Living (GFL) provides critical services to approximately 2500 residents of the family housing unit and approximately 1200 individual graduate students in four graduate student facilities. The GFL team serves as the primary contact for residents and family members in community engagement, wellness, conduct and community standards, critical incidents/emergency response, and safety/security concerns.
Our Early Childhood Education Program supports and nurtures the healthy growth of UC Berkeley’s youngest Bears by enabling their student, faculty, and staff parents to focus on their important studies and work.

Housing Facilities
The Housing Facilities team provides maintenance and improvements to infrastructure (mostly occupied 24/7) that meets University and state regulations, ensuring the safety and comfort of our residents and campus community. We also manage the response to major emergencies, such as power shutdowns that affect our facilities, to ensure the safety of our residents, staff, and guests. Units include:
Custodial & Grounds Services maintains RSSP buildings and surrounding green spaces, including residence halls, suites, and apartments such as University Village Albany; Early Childhood Education centers; and the central Residential & Student Services Building (RSSB). Our Custodial team prides itself on ensuring a high quality of service by meeting all the disinfectant protocols to keep our students and customers safe. Our Grounds team focuses on planting and maintaining native plant species. The team also collects and moves items to appropriate locations for compost, recycling, and landfill.
The Maintenance & Trades unit is a multidisciplinary team responsible for overseeing and administering all aspects of facilities infrastructure and maintenance activities across the RSSP portfolio. Our team is responsible for providing a safe, accessible and effective physical environment that minimizes hazards and risks to students, visitors, faculty, and staff.
Residential Operations manages UC Berkeley’s residential student housing units, runs each unit’s Front Desk as a student-facing central hub for information and support, distributes mail and packages, and provides administrative and logistical support to workers across RSSP’s many departments
